Kweichow Moutai’s economic engine remains exceptional, but growth has cooled: its scarce, globally distinctive baijiu brand supports extraordinary pricing power and profitability, while recent reported quarterly growth is modest.

Moutai makes premium baijiu and sells it through direct channels and distributors. Its advantage is not simply distilling capacity: the brand, production traditions and long maturation cycle make supply difficult to expand quickly. That scarcity supports premium prices and strong margins; direct sales also let the company capture more of the value that might otherwise accrue to intermediaries.
The latest available figures are for the nine months ended September 30, 2026: reported revenue was CNY 133280000000 and net profit attributable to shareholders was CNY 64470000000. Q3 revenue was reported up 3.08% year on year, and net profit up 3.78%. Those figures point to continued growth, but at a much slower pace than the brand’s long-run economics might suggest. The figures come from a third-party report of the company’s Q3 disclosure; the filing itself was not available through the official-report fetch.
This is broadly a win-win model: consumers pay for a product with strong cultural and status value, while distributors and hospitality businesses can benefit from demand. But scarcity and a large gap between company selling prices and some market prices can also encourage speculation and frustrate consumers seeking reliable access. That channel tension is worth tracking, not evidence by itself that the underlying brand is failing.
The durable risks are a lasting decline in premium baijiu demand, weaker consumer willingness to pay, or distribution inventory and resale prices deteriorating enough to weaken brand confidence. The key scorecard is Moutai-segment revenue growth, direct-sales mix, gross margin, distributor inventory and market prices relative to company selling prices. Overall, the franchise is strong; the near-term growth signal is less convincing than the moat.
